“Fire and Ice” is deal with two things that human’s philosophical meditation to desire and hate of human. When the first time you saw this poem, it was a difficult to understand meaning of poem. However, this poem receives a favorable evaluation as three preliminary teacher select suitable to teach to high school students. They choose this poem and they blogged about it. According to their blogs, the reason of this poem appropriate material to teach high school students is this poem is simple and short. Furthermore, it could help students struggle with meaning.

The bloggers have a one in common. The “Fire and Ice” is simple and short. Kyeong Ho Jeon point out that this poem is simple and short so, students learn English more essay. He says that short and clear sentence is strength to teaching because, simple and clear have powerful meaning (2014.10.11). In addition, he writes, “simple is the best” and “The writer expresses exactly what he/she want to tell people”  (Jeon,2014.10.11). Also, Jeong Rae Kim say that this poem appropriate material to teach because It is not long poem (2014.10.18). He writes, “The length of poem is not long and the vocabulary is not difficult. So, Students could study poem with tranquil heart”  (Kim,2014.10.08). According to both bloggers, we may agree with them that simple and sort poem could help to students learned poem.

Bloggers makes another point that is this poem have implicative meaning. According to Cheongjun Ji, implicative meaning of this poem will be able to draw a student’s thinking. He writes, “they struggle with meaning to get the poem” and “that’s going to be good study stuff for raising their ability to think” (Ji,2013.10.15). Kim agrees that this poem draw students thinking. He writes, “It not only gives a good idea for consideration but also easy and could reduce the repulsion of poem” (Kim,2014.10.11). Furthermore, Jeon also talk about this poem’s meaning. He says that this poem “has hidden strong messages” and it is “good for high school students to learn for their lives”, he focuses on this poem’s messages.

In summary, all of bloggers agree that “Fire and ice” is appropriate material to teach of the poem to high school students because through this poem, students can not only learn easy to poem but also they struggle with meaning thereby they could learn a lot of from the poem.

What does it means about “Fire and Ice”? It does mean just contrasting of two words “Fire and ice”? The general means “fire” is burn something and “Ice” means frozen water. It is same meaning of this poem?

We reading this poem, we are able to think about two words that “fire and ice.” In this poem, we think about human’s philosophical meditation to desire and hate of human. Therefore, we can learn and comprehend the opinion of writer.

This poem starts with an expression like “some say the world will end in fire, some say in ice”. What does it means the “world will end in fire and ice”? If as it is interpreted literally meaning, the earth could burn in the fire. Also if the world will the end of ice, It is meaning to come to the second glacial epoch but as you know that was not hidden meaning. The two words have implied meaning. In this regard, the first line reveal human’s thinking about destruct of world. In this line, the important thing is writer is does not talking the power of fire or ice. Taken as a whole poem, meaning of fire is ‘desire’ and ice is ‘hate’. The important subject is human’s desire and hate. The reason writer related the end of world and human’s desire was goes to show what a formidable thing. Human’s desire has a power as the end of the world.

The general characteristics of poem are metaphor and a simile. Similarly, also this poem using metaphorical expression. It the best feature of this poem. That’s interesting, human’s desire as destructed the world but, the “ice” and “fire” is very simple thing. Is there interesting between these two words meaning. The writer deal with wide subject “the end of the world” but, it was written down by just a few sentence in poem. That is interest things. Through poetic expression in poem make meaning maximize to using conflict of expression. This metaphorical and implicative because characteristic of poem. The aims of the poem were expressed short and simple to many parts.

We could learn a lot form the poem. Above all, we could understand the implicit meaning by studying poem. Especially, “Fire and ice” is more harder understanding,but it’s more helpful to study literature. The advantage of the poem “Fire and ice”, It make our to head work about literary thinking.As a result, It is worth to teach to high school students enough.
